



SELOUS Game Reserve is believed to be leading with the largest number of elephants while the Katavi Reserve leads in crocodile population compared to other reserves in the world.
The Director of Wildlife Department, Erasmus Tarimo, said yesterday that Tanzania needs to maintain a good record of wild animals conservation to attract more tourists and increase foreign currency income.
Speaking about Operation “Kipepeo,” the Special Operations Commander, Venance Tossi, said frequent operations will help to curb the problem of poaching in the country.
He noted that the police force is ready to collaborate with any institution to ensure sustainable security of the people and their properties such as wild animals.
Dr Pascal Kumburu, from the police health unit reminded officials under the operation to refrain from casual sex on grounds that HIV/AIDS was still around the corner.
The operation carried in the Selous Game Reserve, goes to the second round involving the central, North, Lake Zone regions intending to stop poaching in game reserves and national parks.
Seleous extends to 10 districts in Morogoro, Coast, Lindi and Rukwa regions and conserves different kinds of wild animals.
The districts include Ulanga, Kirombero, Mvomero, Kilosa in Morogoro, Rufiji and Kisarawe in Coast Region, Kilwa and Liwale in Lindi Region and Tunduru and Namtumbo in Ruvuma.
