REMEMBER the song 'Ogopa Tapeli'? How about the evergreen hit 'Penzi Haligawanyiki' featuring Kida Waziri's sweet voice?
Well, after a long self-exile, the angel-voiced songbird is back in the music scene with a single 'Nimerudi Tena'.
Kida, fondly referred to as 'Stone Lady,' said yesterday that she was as strong enough behind the mike as she used to be during her memorable days with Vijana Jazz band.
“I'm still strong behind the mike as those who chanced to listen to my new song can attest,” she said confidently.
During her days with Vijana Jazz in the 1990s, Kida used to leave music fans breathless for her appealing voice and extra-ordinary dancing skills.
She teamed up with vocalists Hemed Maneti (then band leader), Adam Bakari 'Sauti ya Zege', Eddy Sheggy and ace soloist Shaaban Yohana 'Wanted' to release tracks that took the country's scene by storm in the 1990s.
The songs include 'Mwisho wa Mwezi', Ogopa Tapeli', 'Safari ya Bujumbura', 'Aza Umeniumbua' and 'Penzi Haligawanyiki', which dominated local radio stations programs for years.
Some of them, especially 'Penzi Haligawanyiki' and 'Mwisho wa Mwezi', continue to enjoy air play on various radio stations in the country, Kenya and Rwanda.
